Problem—The general surgery department has seen a rise in patients who cannot schedule their appointments within MyChart after receiving a referral. As a result, the department has requested a task aide to give to or send to patients along with their referral to help them schedule their appointment.
Solution- I created a flowchart style infographic using Canva and screenshots of the actual process to schedule an appointment within MyChart.
Goals
My Goal- My goal was to create an easily understandable infographic to help patients using visuals and simple written instructions.
Learner Goal- After using the infographic task aide, the user will be able to schedule their appointment in the MyChart app without assistance from tech support or the doctor's office staff with 100% accuracy.
Process
Needs Analysis- After speaking with the office staff in the general surgery department, it was clear patients were struggling with scheduling their own appointments within the MyChart app.
Lesson Design- It was determined the best solution was to create a one-pager infographic that took the patient through the process, step-by-step with written instructions as well as screenshots on the process.
Interactive Elements- The infographic is a static document that is intended to be sent to the patient in an email or as a printed handout. Therefore, there are no interactive elements.
Tone & Accessibility- The language is simple and easy to understand. Images correspond with the instructions. Images are also large enough for the user to see the detail of the app screen.
Authoring Tools- the infographic was created using Canva and screenshots from MyChart.
